Range Bag; What To Consider

Range Bags

The very first thing to consider when looking at buying a range bag is, what all do I take to the range with me.  This will help you determine the size of the bag you are going to need.  There are many different sizes in bags, and if you are going to do a little pistol shooting then all you more than likely need is a small bag to keep some hearing protection, glasses, and a little extra ammo in.  However, if you plan to spend the whole day at the range with multiple weapons, you probably need to look into a larger bag with several compartments to store a lot of stuff in.  Bulldog range bag offers bags in small, medium, and large.  Click here to check them out.

Organization of Your Range Bags

Another thing you need to look at is how organized you are.  If you are the type of person that has a place for everything and everything has a place you need to go with a bag that has a lot of different compartments so you can have a place for everything.  If you are the type of person that can find stuff better even when piled together then you might look into a bag that has a couple of side compartments and one large compartment in the middle of the bag.  Both types work equally well, it just depends on what type of person you are as to which will work best for you.

Ammo In Shooting Bags

Do you keep your ammo and magazines separate from your safety gear?  I’m not saying that you have to, but if you do you need to think about that before deciding on your gun bags.  If you keep it separate you might need to think about buying two smaller bags instead of one large bag.  If not then a larger bag that will hold ammo and safety supplies will do fine for you.

Amount of Ammo in Gun Range Bags

If you carry a lot of ammo with you, which depends on how long of a range visit you are planning on, it would be good to consider a bag that has a reinforced bottom in it and very sturdy straps.  I think that this is a good idea no matter what because even if you don’t have a whole lot of ammo, let’s face it, most of the stuff you are going to take is going to really add up weight wise.  Just something to consider.

Pistol in Gun Bag or Holster?

If you have a holster for your weapon and never put it in a bag then ignore this section.  If you like to keep your weapon in your bag until you are ready to fire your weapon, then you probably need to find a bag that has appropriate pockets for them.  If you do plan to put your pistol in your gun range bag, you really need to make sure that pocket is clean and free from other objects to insure you don’t get any foreign objects down the barrel.

Price on Shooting Range Bags

This could inevitably be the deciding factor on which Range bag you decide on getting.  Range bags can really vary on prices, from around $30 up to a few hundred dollars, all depending on what all options you want.  There are many people that use bags that aren’t technically called a “range bag” but still do the trick.  Whichever way you go on it, just don’t break the bank on a bag, get what you need and what you can afford.  Cabelas offers a very good selection of range bags that will help you find what you are looking for and at the right price.  I think most people can find a happy medium between usability and price, and be very happy with what they get.
